Eligibility The Program is focused on supporting accomplished composers from a wide range of musical backgrounds, which
may include composers with previous experience writing for film as well as accomplished composers working outside
of film whose work is suitable for film scoring.
Description The Film Music and Sound Design Lab at Skywalker Sound was launched in 2013 and brings together both fiction and
documentary filmmakers, emerging film composers, and sound designers.

When is my application due?
Applications must be completed and uploaded by Wednesday April 4th, in order to be reviewed. Late applications can only be accepted with written consent from Film Music program staff.
Fiction or Documentary:
In recent years, Sundance has conducted two labs, one for fiction film and one for documentary. For 2018 we will be running one lab that will bring together filmmakers in both areas. As the line between fiction and documentary has blurred in recent years, we feel that the community of artists will benefit from cross-pollination. Composers will apply to the program as a whole and once accepted will be assigned either a fiction or documentary project to work on during the Lab.
WHAT WILL I NEED IN ORDER TO APPLY?

- 15 min audio sample:
- Sample can be up to 7 separate audio tracks
- Supported audio file types: MP3, MP4, WMA, ACC (M4A) and FLAC
- Upload a copy of your resume that includes a full list of credits (.doc or PDF only)
- Upload a brief statement of intent outlining why you are applying to the program and how it fits into your overall career goals. Include your musical training as well as your level of fluency with digital audio workstations.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I APPLY?
Applicants will be notified of selections by early June . Notifications will not be made on a rolling basis. Please do not contact the office to request status updates. Due to the high volume of applications, we do not provide any feedback.

Do you accept international applicants?
Yes. However if selected, international applicants may be asked to cover a portion of their airfare to the program.
I work with another composer - can we apply as a team?
Unfortunately, we do not accept applicants who are a part of a team. We have resources and a program structure built around supporting individual composers only at this time.
When will I know if I have been selected or not?
Participants will be notified if selected or not, in early June, 2018.
If accepted into the program what do I have to pay?
You do not have to pay to attend this program. If accepted, as a Sundance Fellow of this program your costs associated with getting to and attending the lab are covered. This includes travel, lodging and meals onsite.
How many people apply to the Lab and how many then are accepted?
We expect over 600 applicants this year for 8 Fellowships.
If I am not accepted into the program can I receive feedback on my application?
Unfortunately, due to the high volume of submissions we receive we are unable to offer individual feedback to applicants.
